- My understanding is this is because they need lots of "dynamic range".
- IE: they need to be able to pull 20 ton up a hill, yet also be able to go
- 60 MPH. A manual tranny can provide more "gears" for less complexity.
- We used to have a 25 (?I think) ton international (tandem axle) dumptruck
- with an auto trans. Worked ok, just left you thinking you weren't in
- control......
