- It doesn't sound like spark knock based on these two clues.

- One noise that is often confused with spark knock is "piston slap".
- It occurs when there is too much of a gap between the pistons and
- the cylinders. It is usually worse when the engine is cold (because
- the aluminum pistons expand/contract more with temperature than the
- iron engine block). This also sounds compatible with the technical
- bulletin.

- In many cases piston slap is harmless (except to the manufacturer's
- reputation and customer satisfaction). Maybe you should just live
- with it, or get some expert ears to listen to it.
