- On I-5 while doing about 95 in a '78 Celica, my left rear tire, first
- separated, then blew. I heard (felt) the tire seperate and took my
- foot off the gas, so I was probably doing 80 when it blew. It was a
- scary experience, since the left rear of the car dropped and the tire
- continued to fly apart (beating the fender well to a pulp), but the car
- remaind relatively straight as I down shifted and coasted it to a stop on
- the shoulder. I have heard (and strongly believe) that when one has a
- tire fail, braking is a *BAD* idea, as well as any abrupt changes of
- direction. So, no real problem, but I did have to check my shorts :-)
