- When a person buys a used car in California, the sales tax is payable
- on registration. However, this tax varies with the county. So if the
- purchaser registers the car in a county far away from his residence
- can he avoid the higher tax rate? For example, in the San Francisco
- Bay Area counties the sales tax is 8.25% but outside that it drops
- to 7% or thereabouts (I think). Thanks.
