- I've heard ok things about Lexington but AVOID WATERTOWN! THey are
- sleazy!
- I brought my '87 Corolla in for a 45k checkup. I asked them to check
- on a couple of little things:
- side turn light not blinking
- ashtray had fallen out
- A/C belt needed replacing.
-
- They charged me almost $400 without fixing most of the problems!
- The worst was that they charged me the "estimated" time and not the
- actual time on each item, ie each thing was the 1/2-hour minimum. This
- ought to be illegal. When I protested the manager told me with a
- straight face that yes, indeed, it *had* taken them seven hours to do
- a tuneup on my car!
- Among other things, they charged me the listed price for "checking
- A/C belt" but said they did not have the belt in stock. They asked me
- to bring the car back and pay the FULL price for taking the car apart
- again (a pain on this model.) I protested this and was told that I
- should be charged because they DID "check" the belt. So, I was charged
- for eyeballing. It would have been MUCH cheaper to replace the belt
- with the car already partially dis-assembled for the valve
- adjustments.
- They charged me $26 to replace a light bulb which was not burnt out
- but which I mistakenly thought should blink when the turn signal was
- blinking. That $26 was the $25 "estimated time" plus $1 for a bulb
- which I had replaced the week before.
- They didn't fix the ashtray...said it was not possible. Actually it
- would have involved removing the dashboard.
- I got in a pretty big fight withthe manager but he showed me where,
- in the fine print, I had agreed to these estimated charges. They had
- my car, so I wrote the check. I debated cancelling it and suing but
- decided to chock it up to experience. My car will never set wheels in
- a Toyota garage again, though!
