- But Joe, Hailey's novel was/is mainstream. Anything goes in mainstream.
- The romance genre (and PLEASE--not bodice rippers. I hope we've
- progressed beyond that) has certain criteria such as heroines who are NOT
- promiscuous, no gratuitous sex, no alcoholism, and the character must grow
- by overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Basically, it's a short
- read--escapist literature, with a happy ending. Egad. Life is too real;
- I want a fantasy with a larger-than-life hero and a heroine with whom I
- can view the fictive world. I replied to this note by private eMAIL, but
- suggested a couple of publishing houses she might submit to. It is
- possible to have disabled protagonists, even in romance.
- Suzanne (writing romance and loving it)
