- BK>>It wouldn't be a problem for a phone company to operate a BBS
- BK>>holding Yellow Pages information - then blind users could log on
- BK>>and use their own technology to find numbers and services... I
- BK>>wonder why no-one's doing that yet?
-
- BK>Good idea, however, believe it or not, not enough blind folks have
- BK>computers yet, although, proportionally, I'd suspect that more of them
- BK>have computers than the sighted comunity.
-
- But I wouldn't have thought the cost of a
- small online system just making a phone database available would have
- been terribly costly. If hobbyists can organise BBSs to quite a high
- standard for little or no financial return, surely commercial companies
- could manage... We have Yellow Pages online in the UK, but then we are
- so much smaller! However - as a service for the blind community in your
- area, wouldn't it be good PR for the phone company? Maybe someone should
- mention this to them ;-)
-
- BK>Incidentally, our local library has decided to start a database for
- BK>blind users, and that will be up shortly I believe. Ah yes, things
- BK>are looking up.
-
- Good news indeed. I'm for any public-access adoption of info technology!
-
- Cheers...
