  20.  Guatemala's Minister of the Interior, Hurtado, resigned July 23.
  21. He was reacting to harsh criticism for his handling of a two-day
  22. peaceful demonstration by some 500 peasants outside the
  23. Presidential Palace. At least 25 protesters were injured by anti-
  24. riot police.

  26. The demonstrators charged that several children accompanying them
  27. have disappeared during the police attack.

  29. The peasants had gathered outside the government building July 21,
  30. demanding their land back.

  35. Guatemalan government and rebel leaders will resume their peace
  36. talks next Aug 3 in Mexico City. The agenda will include three
  37. issues of paramount importance to end the country's armed conflict:
  38. Human rights, the participation of other sectors in the dialog, and
  39. mechanisms to speed up the peace process.

  46.  Eleven brainless children have been born in the last two years in
  47. the Mexican municipality of Acuna, on the Mexican-US border. The
  48. Mexican Social Insurance Institute, INSS, has also revealed that
  49. five babies without brains have been born so far this year in the
  50. same area.

  52. The Mexican institute says that one of 182 children is born
  53. brainless in Acuna. Experts point out that is an alarming figure,
  54. since the standard figure is one of 6,000. They put the blame on
  55. the high level of pollution caused by area industry. (R. Havana
