- Subj: VOTE THIS FRIDAY
-
- Dear friends,
-
- This will be the pivotal week in the Senate for the Nuclear
- Testing Moratorium Act. First, the Appropriations Committee will
- be marking-up its FY 93 bill by this Wednesday (tommorrow),
- including Senator Hatfield's NTMA amendment. If Hatfield does not
- try to attach it in committee, it is likey to be offered on the
- floor as soon as Thursday night or Friday when the entire
- Appropriations bill goes to the floor.
-
- Also, on Thursday, July 23, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
- will hold a hearing on the NTMA.
-
- Also, by Friday Sam Nunn's unique brand of testing language is
- likely to be unveiled as part of the Senate Armed Services
- Committee's FY 93 Defense Authorization bill. Nunn is being
- forced to respond to this issue because of the overwhelming public
- and Congressional support for the one-year moratorium
- legislation.
-
- THEREFORE, NOW IS THE TIME TO CALL EVERYONE IN THE SENATE WHO IS
- UNDECIDED ON THIS ISSUE AND TO URGE THEM TO SUPPORT THE
- HATFIELD-MITCHELL NUCLEAR TESTING MORATORIUM ACT. MESSAGES TO
- APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE MOST IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE
- DELIVERED BY EARLY AFTERNOON ON WEDNESDAY. MESSAGES TO OTHER
- SWINGS SHOULD BE DELIVERED BY 5PM THURSDAY.
-
- CO-SPONSORS OF THE NTMA COULD ALSO BE CALLED WITH A MESSAGE OF
- THANKS AND A REMINDER THAT THEIR VOTE OF SUPPORT IS VITAL -- WITH
- ONLY 52 CO-SPONSORS PASSAGE OF S. 2064 IS BY NO MEANS ASSURED.
-
- Key Appropriations Committee who are not yet co-sponsors of S.
- 2064, the NTMA, include: Gorton (WA), Bond (MO), D'Amato (NY),
- Kasten (WI), Garn (UT), and Johnston (LA).
-
- Other key members not yet co-sponsors of the NTMA include:
- Durenberger (MN), Cohen (ME), McConnell (KY), Brown (CO), and
- Graham (FL). Good luck in urging these folks to support the NTMA.
- Call Daryl Kimball at PSR (202-785-3777) if you have questions.
-
- Thanks! Daryl Kimball
