- Well, the full name for anomaly is anomaly.sbs.risc.net. And yes, anomaly
- does have quite an impressive archive of software that's been ported to
- the SCO platforms.
- However ... (I'd like to continue on this topic if I may, because I feel
- that publicly accessible archives are a tremendous asset to us small guys)
- I have recently been in communication with Michael Deignan regarding
- anomaly's operating status, because myself and many others on the net have
- had very little (if any) success in making use of this great asset.
- I had tried ftp'ing at various times from 5am to 8pm, and not once been
- able to connect. (anomaly would refuse connection) So I asked Mr. Deignan
- what the operating status of anomaly was, ie: was there some problem that
- I didn't know about preventing me from connecting. The reply was: anomaly
- is as it always has been; and anomaly will disappear if it gets to be too
- big a pain in the a??. Now, don't get me wrong, I completely agree with
- Mr. Deignan that providing a (wonderful) asset to the Xenix community in
- the form of an anonymous FTP archive cannot be the primary function of his
- organization nor can it become detrimental to the firms functioning. (this
- is *not* a flame towards him or anomaly, merely a show of frustration by
- having some wonderful tools just out of reach!) Many others on the net
- have expressed similiar problems in making use of the anomaly archives.
- So ... would it be possible to have an anonymous ftp site be a "mirror"
- of anomaly, therefore providing much greater access to this wealth of
- software tools??? I've seen at least *3* other sites advertising their
- archive of Xenix software, so I'm just wondering - why not? - can't one of
- these other sites take on all of anomalys Xenix stuff? (btw: the three
- sites I'm thinking of are Oakland, UUnet, and wuarchive)
- So what do you ppl think?
