  11. In trying to setup access a 9-track tape drive under vpix, I encountered the
  12. following message:
  13.         ioctl error: bad address
  14.         unable to complete ioctl
  15.  
  16. The manual says this happens because a unix driver exists for this device, and
  17. even though no unix process has it open, this is still treated as a conflict.
  18. Why?

  20. Here's what I'm trying to do.  The tape drive is from Catamount, who provides
  21. a unix driver that I regularly use.  The problem is that the diagnostics they
  22. provide only run under DOS.  Rather than take down the system to diagnose a tape
  23. problem, I'd like to run those diagnostics under vpix.  Sounds reasonable, no?

  25. Is there a work-around out there?
