-
- Yes, we do use ISC 3.2 and Sybase versions 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3 and 4.2.
-
- None of it seems to work here... our ISC hangs up in an eternal loop.
- With the kernel debugger enabled, we can trace it to be looping around
- in the (ISC kernel) streams module, trying to dispatch streams messages
- that seemingly just produces new messages - in the queuerun/runqueues
- routines. It always seems to happen when the current process is an isql
- that we start up every 10 seconds to do some very trivial queries. The
- machines may run for somewhere between 1/2 hour till 2 weeks before they
- hang - it doesn't seem to depend on the weather or anything like that :-)
-
- We have tested this on 8+ machines with different configurations
- (ISA/EISA, 486/SX and DX of various speeds, IDE/SCSI disks, various
- brands of motherboards (Intel, Tulip, Hauppauge, noname), different
- boxes and powersupplies, etc).
-
- We do have, however, one machine that seems to be running very stable (5
- weeks now). We don't know why this one works and the rest doesn't, but
- maybe the 4.0.2 version is the most stable? We are currently testing
- 4.0.2 on another machine that uses to hang once a day - though it
- sometimes runs for 12 days or more before hanging.
-
- We have been in contact with Sybase and Interactive, through their
- respective Danish dealers. They have been very helpful, but have not -
- so far - been able to resolve the problem. They are (I hope...) still
- working on a solution.
-
- We have tested our software (which, in the boiled-down version, only
- queries the database from a shell-script by means of isql every 10
- second) on a Sun IPX, running Solaris/SunOS 4.1.2, and Sybase 4.8. So
- far, it seems to be more stable, but only time will show...

- I've tried to mail this directly to you as well. I would be very happy
- to get a contact to you directly. My email is below, our fax is
- (+45) 4371 4342, and the phone is (+45) 4371 0704. This is in Denmark
- (you know - the European Football Champions of '92 :-), so remember the
- time difference if you want to call by voice.
-
- If anybody else reading this has a hint or have (had) similar problems,
- I would be tremendously happy to hear from you. Any hints appreciated.
