- Subject: ESIX won't install
-
- JR>I can't install ESIX on a clone using ufs style file systems. No
- JR>trouble installing it using s5 style file systems. Any ideas about
- JR>the trouble? Could it be the disk controller? The details:
- JR>Hard Drive
- JR> UltraStor ESDI + Floppy controller
- JR> Maxtor 670 Mbyte drive
- Jon-
- I had a similar problem that drove me nuts for 2 months and
- it turned out to be the MODE used when low level formatting
- the hard disk. I am at home now so don't have the details,
- but assuming you have a good (not Everex EV-348) ESDI card (we use the
- DTC card), call MAXTOR tech support and they shoudl be able to
- go over all the jumpers with you as well as the low level choices
- that will allow the drive to work under ESIX. I have found them to
- be great at solving the hard ones.
-
- Good luck and let me know how it comes out. I am interested in other
- users experience with ESIX.
-
- JR>The system goes through the entire installation process including the
- JR>last message:
- JR> The ESIX system will now be installed on your hard disk .....
- JR>There is then lots of activity on the floppy and hard drive. Then the
- JR>system hangs.
-
- JR>Inspection using the boot floppies shows that the /stand filesystem
- JR>exists but has no files in it.
-
- JR>Attempt to boot produces the messages:
- JR> BFS not fully populated, REVERTING back to BOOT
- JR> open: Unknow Boot file system type
- JR> read: " " "
- JR> open: " " "
- JR> read: " " "
-
- JR> boot: Cannot load /ete/initprog/at386: not an ELF of COFF binary
-
- JR> boot: Cannot load initprog: /etc/initprog/as386
-
- JR>DOS programs run OK, and (as I said) I can install ESIX using s5 rather
- JR>than ufs file systems.
-
- JR>Many Thanks:
