- I'm not completely convinced that this is the best forum for my question,
- but I think it's the best place to start. Here goes:
-
- I have a ZEOS 486/33 running DELL's SVr4 (A _fine_ product, I might add :),
- and I currently have a 2400 bps modem on loan from my department at school.
- I am interested in purchasing a 14.4 kbps modem, since the main computing
- center for the College of Engineering here is going to upgrade to 14.4 kbps
- modems at the end of the summer, and the thought of SLIP connections to
- campus from home is mighty appealing. (Actually, just a faster "boring"
- connection would be great, too. :)
-
- So, my question is, is there a certain make or model of external, 14.4
- kbps modem that you would recommend? Some criteria that I should add are
- the following: I would like to be able to make 9600 and 2400 bps
- connections as well, since 14.4 kbps modems aren't exactly widespread;
- the cost should be low--preferably under $500; it should preferably be
- easy to set up (but since I have the basics down, how hard can it be?);
- and reliable. I have looked through _Computer Shopper_, and found a
- bunch of names, but I don't recognize many of them, and I was hoping that
- maybe the Collective Experience of the Net would help me out.
-
- Please e-mail replies, suggestions, etc., and if there is sufficient
- interest, I'll post a summary of types.
-
- Thank you very much,
- JK
