- This is a question which I have a particular interest in as we are
- about to start networking here and my personal feeling is that the
- idea of a 'stand alone' file server a la Novell is a waste of time
- especially in your case where your PCs are going to be running UNIX.
- If a Unix box with NFS can supply file server capabilities then why
- bother with Novell ? Even Novell seem to have recognized this fact
- as they are busy working on Univel which, as far as I can make out,
- will provide the same functionality as a UNIX box with NFS.
-
- So my recommendation (for what it's worth) is the last above.
- The only problem arises where you need to provide a DOS version
- of NFS for your PCs - most of the products for doing this are
- rather expensive. But as demand rises, no doubt the prices will
- come down.
-
- Will be interested to hear what others on the net think.
