-
- 1) The effect is certainly not limited to, or characteristic for 17" monitors
- 2) I thought the 9080i is a 16" monitor
- 3) The effect only shows up under certain conditions:
- i) a very fine grain, regular dot pattern is displayed
- ii) at high resolutions
- iii) with respect to the dotpitch of the tube
- iv) and the size of the tube
- provided that
- v) the bandwidth of the monitor is high enough
- vi) and the picture is displayed slightly rotated on the screen.
-
- In addition, in practice, it becomes worse if you operate your monitor
- at or beyond its specs. I remember that there is some kind of periodicity
- wrt. the dotclock. Note that even highly professional monitors have suffer
- from vi) enough to make the effect observable.
-
- Solutions:
- a) reduce granularity of the pattern displayed (a solid background comes to mind)
- b) reduce resolution (not a popular one if you just payed to be able to use that)
- c) tweak timing parameters (helped for me)
-
- If this doesn't help for you,
- d) get some el-cheapo monitor and be satisfied ever after :-}
-
- Do NOT
- e) open your monitor to try adjust anything. It won't help, and you'll
- probably screw up quite a lot.
