  14. I am in the market for a 486 EISA system.
  15. Now, I am wondering whether I should buy an EISA system with two local
  16. bus slots or not.
  17. This system will run DOS (in a small partition), OS/2 (in another partition)
  18. and UNIX.
  19. That means that I have to choose boards, e.g. for graphics, which are
  20. supported by all these OSes (DOS/MS-Windows, PM for OS/2 and X-Windows under
  21. UNIX).
  22. I know that there are drivers for all of these for 8514/A (or clones) and for
  23. boards with the ET4000 chipset.
  24. Now my question is, can I use the same driver for a certain board regardless
  25. whether the board is installed in one of the local bus slots or in the
  26. regular ISA resp. EISA slot ?
  27. Or, in other words, do I need a certain driver for the local bus board and
  28. a different one for the ISA-bus board ?

  30. If the same driver will work in both situations,
  31. then I could buy, e.g., a ET4000 local bus SVGA-board and still
  32. use the existing drivers for MS-Windows, the X-Window server (X386), etc.
  33. If not, I have to look for another EISA-Board or graphic board.

  38. I was on vacation for several weeks and couldn't follow the discussion
  39. in this group, lately. In addition, this topic was brought to my
  40. attention just yesterday.
