- Minix is an operating system based on Unix Version 7. It was written by
- Andrew S. Tannenbaum (a computer science professor in Netherland). The
- source code was published in his book "Operating Systems" and ported
- to IBM-PC (and the 'so called' compatibles), Amiga and Atari. Even if
- you don't want to get Minix, buy the book (Or the new release called
- "Modern Operating Systems"). You learn a lot about an OS. It's one of
- my top five books about computers.
-
- More about Minix you'll find in comp.os.minix.

- It's not all of a Unix, but it's cheap and small. If you want to learn
- about Unix buy the book and Minix. Many Unix programs can be easily
- ported to Minix. It comes, as i know, with a C compiler.

- It runs even on a 500. I heard from a guy who used a floppy disk as
- swapspace :-) Don't ask me about the HD-Support. The only HD supported
- i'm sure of, is the A590.

-
- Why should we laugh. The question whether Amiga Unix 2.x runs on a 500
- would be #1 in a FAQ list :-)
