  20. I assume you are interested in achieving the best possible solution, for which
  21. you require a balanced view on all the available products on offer, therefore
  22. I am very surprised that Mr Beckman did not also describe the UNIBOL product
  23. which was also reviewed by Roger Pence.

  27. Mr Beckman is quite right in describing RS/36 as a complete runtime environment
  28. emulating the System/36 and executing original System/36 binaries.  (You may
  29. however wish to think carefully about license infringement when executing 
  30. binaries for which you you do not own the source rights.)

  32. UNIBOL is also a complete System/36 environmemt for both runtime execution AND
  33. future application development.  Whilst RS/36 emulates the System/36,
  34. UNIBOL will migrate source code to the Risc System 6000 (via 1/4", 4mm or 8mm
  35. tape), recompile it and execute in native AIX whilst still retaining the
  36. familiar and friendly System/36 environment.  The performance of the machine
  37. allows RS/36 to be faster than a System/36 but because it is a ** native **
  38. implementation, UNIBOL provides considerably faster performance still !!

  40. UNIBOL provides complete support for OCL, screens (SDA), help, messages,
  41. autoreport, editors, RPGII, COBOL, RPG400 (including ASNA and BPS), POP, any
  42. ascii/ansi terminal (up to 9 sessions per terminal), 5250 devices, report
  43. generator and full capability at all levels to interface to other native AIX
  44. applications and utilities.  Compilation speeds of 130 times faster than a 5360
  45. make it a dream of a development environment.

  52. make UNIBOL a superb choice when transferring to AIX.  Not only does it provide

  55. time take advantage of a wealth of new software languages and applications.
