- I've seen a lot of discussion about 8mm tape; but not much about the Exabyte
- drive itself.
-
- We use Exabyte drives and often get tape jams, infact 30% of our field returns
- involve tape jams. Are we unlucky, or do other people experience this as well?
-
- We use a mix of tape brands including:
-
- ExaTape
- SONY data grade
- SONY video grade
- Fuji data grade
-
- The drives are cleaned every 2-4 weeks with the Exabyte cleaning tape. We have
- been advised by Exabyte that tape jams are caused by poor loading technique!
- They suggest the following procedure:
-
- 1) check there is NO tape slack
- 2) load tape so that it is fully seated into the loading tray
- 3) close door by pushing *top left hand corner*
- 4) make sure that the door latches on first attempt
- 5) if door does NOT latch first time remove tape and repeat from step 2
-
- Any feedback on this topic would be appreciated.
