  12. I've seen a lot of discussion about 8mm tape; but not much about the Exabyte
  13. drive itself.
  14.  
  15. We use Exabyte drives and often get tape jams, infact 30% of our field returns
  16. involve tape jams. Are we unlucky, or do other people experience this as well?

  18. We use a mix of tape brands including:
  19.  
  20. ExaTape
  21. SONY data grade
  22. SONY video grade
  23. Fuji data grade
  24.  
  25. The drives are cleaned every 2-4 weeks with the Exabyte cleaning tape. We have
  26. been advised by Exabyte that tape jams are caused by poor loading technique!
  27. They suggest the following procedure:
  28.  
  29. 1) check there is NO tape slack
  30. 2) load tape so that it is fully seated into the loading tray
  31. 3) close door by pushing *top left hand corner*
  32. 4) make sure that the door latches on first attempt
  33. 5) if door does NOT latch first time remove tape and repeat from step 2
  34.
