  16. What little I know about Windows 3.1 is what I read in the trade rags.
  17. But what I recall, Windows 3.1 no longer supports running in real
  18. mode, which I think means you can no longer run it on a 283 system.
  19. Microsoft has limited it to run only on 386 systems.

  21. The AIX PC simulator simulates a 286 running in real mode.  The best
  22. you will be able to do is run Windows 3.0.  This is known to work, but
  23. again, its only what I read in the papers.   And I always believe what
  24. I read in the papers -- and USENET :-)

  26. I'd also be quite surprised that Windows doesnt insist on installing
  27. itself from the A: drive.  Id suggest first finding a system with a
  28. floppy and installing this way to prove that floppy installation works.
  29. Then add the new complication of installing from floppy images.

  31. Also be aware that one cannot execute DOS programs (exe files) from DOS
  32. drives simulated via AIX directories.  Programs must reside in a
  33. DOS drive file image.  You can copy them there from dos or from AIX using
  34. doswrite.
