- This is not exactly correct. You are refering to apar ix23173 in
- which a Design Change Request (DCR) was put in effect to make scsi
- device configuration less rigid. In the original 3.1.0 disk device
- driver there was a mode sense parameter that was hard-coded. The reason
- it was hardcoded was because it was one of those "fuzzy" scsi specs
- in which it was up to the implimenter to decide if the bit
- should be on or off. So roughly half the disk manufacturers have the
- bit on, the other have it off. So this DCR fixed it so that it didn't
- matter what the disk makers had that bit set to. By the way, once
- again, I will state that there is only ONE scsi disk device driver
- and only ONE scsi tape device driver. Many people keep refering
- to "modules" and "that ost driver". Well, the same driver that is
- running OEM drives is running the IBM made drives. Also, the DCR for
- oem drives was put into the basic 3.2.0 code, so there should be
- no problem there.

- Not really a bug as a design flaw (please, no flames). The configurator
- was not written to accept third party tape drives (many apologies). Now
- in 3.2, this capability has been added to the system. But once again, it
- is running off of the same tape device driver used to run the IBM drives.
