  15. SPARCstation 10's audio capabilities ...

  17. We do a lot of NSF and NIH research on speech 
  18. synthesis and currently use an ATT DSP32C VME board
  19. and ESPS software (plus a lot of custom C stuff).

  29. Our questions concerning the 10:

  32. 1)  stereo or mono ?
  33. 2)  which A/D and D/A chip(s)?
  34. 3)  native data format(s):
  35.       a) 8-bit u-law (like our IPX's, ELC's, etc.) ?
  36.     b) 16-bit linear (PCM) ?
  37.     c) other ?

  39.     (I realize you can convert _some_ formats
  40.       to others via simple filters)

  42. 3.5)  supported sampling rate(s)? (yes, I know
  43.       we can also convert fs with filters)

  45. 4)  How is the background (idle) noise?  We ask this
  46.     because our ELC's and IPX's have audible background 
  47.     interference, apparently associated with bad 
  48.     shielding or grounding (i.e. no separate converter
  49.     ground).  All of them do it, we use headphones a lot
  50.     and are critical listeners ...
