  16. It is important to know that the Sun CPU-board serial ports are *not* RS232.
  17. They are RS423.  They are compatible with RS232 if you don't try to push the
  18. cable lengths or speeds too much, and IF THE BOX AT THE OTHER END REALLY
  19. FOLLOWS THE RS232 SPEC.  There are lots of not-quite-RS232 shortcuts that
  20. more or less work with real RS232 but won't interoperate with RS423.  Folks
  21. trying to design boxes to sell for $5 less in the PC market seem to have
  22. discovered most of them, too.
