- My client has a 4/670 and Newsprint 2.0. It already has a Sparcprinter
- which works fine. She also has an HP Deskjet 500C. Note the "C" in
- the name. This is a printer that takes either a black ink cartridge or
- a 3 color cartridge.
-
- The Newsprint software supports a Deskjet 500 (no "C") which I assume
- is similar to the 500C but only supports a black ink cartridge. I
- installed the 500 from the newsprint cdrom and tried to use it to drive
- the 500C printer. If the 500C has a black ink cartridge installed, it
- prints fine. If I exchange it for a color cartridge and then try to
- send something to the printer, the printer moves the print head to the
- center of its travel and flashes the change cartridge light at me. If
- I then swap back the black one, it prints fine. I've tried this by
- printing both a regular text file and a color postscript file. (I used
- the tiger's head that comes with Openwindows. I know it's in color
- because I've printed it on another color printer.)
-
- So, can I use the 500C with Newprint and get color output? If so,
- how. (The sparcprinter is driven from the lpvi port of the sparccard
- and the 500C from the parallel port.)
