  23. Hmm.  The only explanation I can think of is that you
  24. haven't run MAKDEV tape since installing the drive, but as
  25. of 4.0.1, that should happen automatically on bootup if
  26. /dev/tape doesn't exist, and a tape drive is present.

  28. Does 'mt stat' show anything?  Are you doing this at the
  29. command line, or from system manager?  The latter wants
  30. you to specify the tape device; I forget just which button
  31. it is, but it should be obvious.
