- In a lab where I manage a network part-time, there is one machine on
- which the lpd daemon keeps dying. It is an NIS client so it appears
- protocol and service maps are being propagated properly. In addition
- /dev/printer does not seem to be created by the lpd process and when run
- with -l option syslog has the following error:
-
- Jul 28 09:39:22 glaurung lpd[8897]: socket: Protocol not supported
- Jul 28 09:40:05 glaurung lpd[8916]: socket: Protocol not supported
- Jul 28 10:14:21 glaurung lpd[9025]: socket: Protocol not supported
-
- Any ideas?
-
- Please respond directly. Given enough responses I'll digest them for
- public consumption :)
-
- BTW:
- Trying to use lpc to start daemon produces a similar error.
