-
- Quickpaint will not run under IRIX 4.0x. Don't worry -
- t's not a big loss, since it did not support painting
- on 24-bit images.
-
- If you'd like to add text to your snapshots, you can
- import them into Showcase, then add text using the
- Text tool. If you need to get the result back into
- an image file, then simply snapshot the showcase
- display. Make sure you choose "Full Color" from the
- Showcase menu before taking snapshots of the Showcase
- display.
-
- If you'd like to do some simple image processing, such
- as blurring, sharpening, resizing, or adjusting
- brightness/contrast of an image, check out the
- "imgworks" program, found as part of the ImageVision
- Tools.
-
- If you need to paint on an image, I suggest you obtain
- a copy of "imp - The New Impressionist." It's a
- painting program written by our own Paul Haeberli,
- which allows you to paint and retouch images in a very
- natural and realistic way. But its main feature is
- the special effects it offers, including the ability
- to paint impressionistic caricatures of any image.
- Imp is included on the "Totally Insane" CD, which
- was offered at the Developer's Forum, and can be
- obtained via anonymous FTP from sgi.sgi.com, as the
- file ~ftp/graphics/bin/imp.Z. For a look at some of
- the graphics techniques employed by imp, check out the
- paper "Paint By Numbers: Abstract Image Representations"
- by Paul Haeberli in the SIGGRAPH '90 proceedings.
-
- If you need a full-blown paint, image editing,
- image processing and photo retouching package, you might
- consider purchasing Creative License from Time Arts,
- or Digital Artist from Digital Arts. Both are very
- capable full-color image editing/paint applications.
-
- Hope this information helps.
