  16. I just had to add my two cents here. My company has just finished a 40 page brochure
  17. and we had to use WordPerfect. Why? Because it was the only thing that did side by
  18. side columns (ie not newspaper flowing type columns). I wanted to use Pages or 
  19. PasteUp, but of course neither were available on time. I've used Frame, and just
  20. wasn't willing to go out and buy it now when so many better things are just on the
  21. horizon.

  23. And indeed, I must concur, WordPerfect is possessed. Every once in a while, the 
  24. format of the entire document would simple vanish. The two columns would
  25. disappear and all formatting would be destroyed. Cute. You learn to save often
  26. anyway. One of the ways I was guaranteed to do this was by cutting & pasting 
  27. from a text file.

  29. On the biggest section of the brochure (had to break it down--WP just
  30. couldn't cope with a 40 page doc.) which was about 16 pages long, it took almost
  31. 1.5 seconds for the cursor to move over 1 letter after the arrow key was hit.
  32. This is on an '040 with 16 megs and nothing else running.

  34. There was one other thing as well. WP treats tabs, right-aligned tabs, centered tabs,
  35. and decimal tabs as different beasts. There was about 30 pages of program descriptions
  36. and times in the doc. I told the secretary who was responsible to type them out just to put
  37. tabs between each of the 6 columns of information and I would do the formatting at my
  38. end (she was using WP 5.1 on an old PC). Anyway, when I got the document over, I had
  39. to replace every one of her tabs with a centered tab or decimal aligned tab. That's 30 
  40. pages at 2 or 300 hundred tabs per page.

  42. And to top it off, I added an ad (created in Illustrator) when the text was finally 
  43. finished. I printed it out and everything was fine. But the file will no longer
  44. open under any circumstances. Thank goodness I printed it out once. (I was
  45. supposed to get it digital form to the printer, but they're using the paper--
  46. really classy 8(  ).
