- Granted I made the mistake to compare prices of a 486 and performance of
- a 386. Now with the 386:
-
- 386 40MHz PC with ET4000 VGA 8MB RAM DM 2358
- 120 MB IDE harddisk
-
- Cyrix 80387 40MHz DM 330
-
- Trinitron instead of std. monitor DM 250
-
- Adaptec SCSI hostadapter (no significant
- speedup against IDE, but you have the SCSI
- for your scanner, if you need one, DM 520
- drive is the same price as IDE)
-
- OS/2 2.0 DM 212
-
- WorkFrame /2 DM 124
-
- OS/2 Dev. Toolset DM 165
- =======
- DM 3959
-
- If you allow me to assume $3000 for the IIsi and a ratio of $1 = DM 1.5
- I can`t see how the PC is more expensive. Perhaps Mac prices have dropped in
- the US but you didn`t mention that.

- The Mac has a FPU installed although I can`t see how this may help with
- the Dhrystone benchmark.

- I guess they think: "Oh those dumb Mac users, now we write a fairly bad word
- processor and as soon as they see it they will haul their machines including
- all the excellent word processors of our competitors into the trashcan. Then
- they will rush out and buy a Windoze PC just to run our word processor."
- Yes I guess that`s how Bill made his n * 1E9 $$$.
