- This does not necessarily mean anything. Line quality (or lack thereof) that
- doesn't bother a 2400 bps modem at all can totally wreck a 9600 bps connection.

- This all sounds like either a line problem, or a problem with your long
- distance carrier. I've had no problem connecting to various fax machines
- (up to about 1000 miles distance) at 9600 bps, and modems (up to about
- 1500 miles distance) at 14400 bps. No problems with ANY 2400 bps modems
- I've tried.
- If your modem works locally, but has this much trouble over long distance,
- maybe your long distance carrier is giving you poor lines. I've had no
- trouble with Sprint...

- >Can a $300 modem do coast-to-coast DATA at 9600 or 4800
-
- Yes. Or at least central-US to either coast.
-
- >Can a $300 modem do coast-to-coast FAX at 9600 or other speed.
-
- Yes.
-
- >Can the Supra do the above?
-
- Yes.
-
- >Can a $700 modem do the above?
-
- Yes.
-
- >Can any Modem do the above on non-conditioned lines?
-
- Yes.
