  14. I'm not sure whether this is blasphemy in a Mac newsgroup, but here goes:  We
  15. have a mixed PC and Mac network, all on Ethernet, with Novell NetWare 3.11 and
  16. NetWare for Macintosh 3.01.

  18. Now the problem is, since Macs can't use more than one AppleTalk protocol
  19. (EtherTalk and LocalTalk) at a time, our Mac people can't connect to the
  20. network without disconnecting from the cheap LocalTalk wiring we have set up
  21. for our 2 LaserWriter IINTs.

  23. We have a couple of choices:
  24.     1.  Hook up the LaserWriter IINTs to PC serial ports.  (It's weird, but
  25. it's *supposed* to work.)  I have an HP LaserJet III with a Postscript
  26. cartridge hooked up to a parallel port on a PC, and it WORKS!  I can print to
  27. that printer from the Macs.  But I've followed Apple's instructions for hooking
  28. up the LW IINT to a serial port (null modem; 9600,n,7,1,p; X-ON/X-OFF; etc.)
  29. and the green light on the printer blinks, but it quits without anything
  30. happening.  I'm almost sure it's a serial port settings problem, but I don't
  31. know what else to set!
  32.     2.  Buy 2 Dayna Etherprints.  Each costs about $399, and I'd rather not
  33. have to do this unless it's necessary, and *absolutely* foolproof.
  34.     3.  Buy Apple's Internet Routing software.  I have no idea how this
  35. works or how much it costs, but I understand it can let Macs route between
  36. LocalTalk and EtherTalk???

  41. P.S.  Has anyone out there heard of a Macintosh driver for an HP LaserJet (+,
  42. II, or III will do)???
