- Add my name to the list of people who have had trouble with La Cie. The
- first drive they sent me died shortly after I dumped my files onto it.
- They replaced that with one that had a bad SCSI switch. I sent that back,
- thinking it would be an easy repair, but they replaced it with a drive in a
- case that had been severely banged around. Every step of the way there
- have been delays, and I have had to make multiple phone calls each time to
- get anything to happen. In one case, they said that they would put in a
- pick-up order with UPS, but the drive sat here for at least two months.
- After my other experiences, I wasn't willing to trust them that the drive
- inside this banged-up case was new, and I asked for a refund. They agreed,
- and said it would be on its way, but instead I received another disk that I
- didn't even order. Over the past few months I've talked to a bunch of
- different people there, and it's still not straightened out. Are they
- still running those ads talking about their great reputation?
-
- I am also looking for recommendations for a good external Quantum-based
- drive, around 120 meg. I would gladly buy from APS (I have one of their
- tape drives), but I want something small and rugged enough to carry home,
- like a Cirrus or Tsunami, and APS doesn't have anything like that. Anyone
- have suggestions as to where to find such a drive at a good price?
