- Educational prices for Apple products vary A LOT. I have seen the same Apple
- 16" monitor range in price from $1005 to $1200+. It all depends on your
- school's computer store. At some schools, the school pays for the store and so
- the store basically passes on the merchandise at their cost. At others (such as
- MIT $1185), the store has to earn a profit to pay its rent, lighting, staff,
- etc. So don't be surprised if you are able to find a better deal than your
- school can give you.
-
- As far as other monitors go, I just purchased a Sony 1604s. This is the same
- tube that is in the Apple 16". I am extrememly happy with this monitor, and the
- screen is amazing. I would definately recommend it over the Apple 16" for a few
- reasons:
-
- 1) It supports a resolution of 1024x768, as opposed to Apple's 832x624. Unless
- you have a Q950 this is not a big deal, but it means that you have that option
- in the future.
-
- 2) It is a multiscan monitor, as opposed to Apple's single frequency. This
- means that you can use it on any Mac, as well as PCs, Suns, etc. Makes it much
- easier to resell.
-
- 3) You can find them all over the place for about $999, much less than the
- Apple 16".
