- This is a strange coincident . . .
-
- I have been having exactly this problem with my model 80. If the machine
- was cold (i.e. off for over a day), it would boot with no problems. If
- the machine was warm, it would boot with a 163 error. I could hit F1 and
- boot from SCSI, but the floppy would not work.
-
- Now the complication. Last weekend there was a thunderstorm. I had the
- machine off and unplugged (modem still connected to phone line.) Now
- (after last weekend) the machine will not boot at all - even from the
- reference disk. I get the errors: 162 - beep beep . . . pause - 163.
- Hitting F1 causes the floppy to spin and sounds as if it's reading part
- of the reference disk, and then all hangs.
-
- Any help is appreciated. I'm also soliciting suggestions as to what to
- do with the system now . . seems silly to pay several hundred dollars to
- repair a 16MHz 386.
