- Hi, I have a really weird problem with a 486dx 33MHz motherboard. The
- board was working just fine, but then it was moved into a new case, all
- SIMMs, controllers and expansion cards were replaced.
-
- Now the system started to crash after warming up for a couple of
- minutes. After the crash it does the memory check, but when it usually
- shows the AMI-box with info about the setup it decides to lock up
- completely. When reseting the machine
- after that it just does the same. The board has an AMI bios, and the setup
- works even if the machine doesn't want to boot. By disabling the
- external cache the machine works well (even after the crash).
-
- So the problem is in the external cache. But why does it crash after
- warming up, and then refuse to start? How can I test which IC to
- replace? I do not have spare IC's for just testing.
-
- I am very curios to know what is wrong and why, and how to fix it, since
- this is a problem I have not encountered before. So if the problems ring
- any bells, please tell me!
