  13. Hi.
  14. During the world's largest estafette(=relay race?) (Batavieren-race,
  15. over 6000 participants, see Guiness Book of Records) I have to gather
  16. as quickly as possible a preliminary ranking.
  17. We do this by timing all runners at several points along the track. The
  18. timing-data is read into a computer (PC/XT/AT/?86 whatever) and
  19. simultaneously sent by packet-radio to a second computer near the finish.

  21. Most of the software is up and running and we're up to adding some
  22. extra's. One of these is a second monitor which continuously shows
  23. the last 10 teams arrived at the relay-point and the teams ranking 
  24. 1 through 10.

  26. Of course we don't want this monitor close to our own car or near the 
  27. computer near the finish-line, because of the curious crowd gathering
  28. around this screen to see how they have done so far.

  30. What we _do_ want is this:
  31.     A PC with a (colour) monitor
  32.     a second monitor, connected using about 100 m. coaxial cable
  33.     while the monitor's power supply (12V= )is via the same cable
  34.     the 2nd monitor should be capable of displaying 40x25 characters
  35.  
  36. As you might guess, we're aiming at using a composite video signal,
  37. probably from an CGA-card.

  39. Can anybody tell me (in rough technical terms, we're at a university and we
  40. can get the Electr(on)ical Engineers to work for us) what video-cards
  41. combinations we can use, how we can have both the power and video-signal
  42. over the same cable and if there are any alternatives.

  44. Remember, we have to power the second monitor from the van, because there
  45. are little power outlets in trees and we cannot wake up anybody in the
  46. darkest of night just because of a second power outlet.
