- We have two HP 710's, both 19" 1280x1024 8-plane color beasties.
- We are running HP-UX 8.07.
-
- We'd like to hook up an HP Color DeskWriter (or DeskJet, whichever is
- more appropriate) to one of them to capture screen dumps and do program-
- driven color plots.
-
- Is this realistically feasible? Downright easy?
- Do you (oh, cumulative net.wisdom) recommend the parallel port? serial?
- Any other questions i'm forgetting to ask?
-
- We're also planning on a 600x600 dpi 8.5x11" Postscript laser printer.
- at the moment we're investigating the IBM/Lexmark 4029 series.
- (with 5mb memory and their Postscript plug-in, it'll allegedly do 600x600,
- for a list price of about $5400... we're hoping for a substantial educational
- discount)(but i hope we're not going to get a substantial education ;-)...
- I noticed a note on comp.sys.hp that the parallel port uses a different
- "sense" of the "strobe/data available" line on its parallel port.
- Is this true? is it a problem with either the DeskWriter or proposed printer?
-
- Summaries, rumors and from-the-field results will be posted...
- thanks
