- HP has announced a PEX 5.1 based PEXlib and PEX server, both of which
- will be available on the 9000/700s. I am not aware of any announced
- PEX terminal product. HP's PEXlib is being shown at SIGGRAPH this
- week in Chicago. While this is a product announcement (as opposed to
- showing the PEX Sample Implementation), the release date will be
- towards the end of this year.
-
- If you need to start your graphics programming before that, I
- encourage you to use the C binding for HP-PHIGS. There will still be
- some porting difficulty from PHIGS to PEXlib, since the PEXlib binding
- was not designed to conform to the ISO PHIGS C binding, but the
- primitives and attributes are the same in both APIs. If you need an
- immediate mode API, then Starbase is your only option until PEXlib is
- released.
