- We are going to purchase an entry level workstation
- and are trying to decide between a HP 705 or an IBM
- RS6000 220. Our main use for the machine would be to
- do floating point intensive Monte-Carlo calculations,
- so floating point speed is important. I understand
- that the HP is a little faster, and that HP-UX is a
- nicer operating system than AIX, but IBM is asking
- less money for their machine. Therefore, if the
- differences were slight, we would go with the IBM.
-
- Also, I would like to know if SoftPC is a
- worthwhile program. This could be useful to us
- if it performed reasonably well and did not have
- to many bugs. Could someone tell me if it emulates
- a 286 or a 386 machine, if it can run MS Windows
- applications, and how it deals with graphics?
-
- Any information and opinions will be appreciated!
-
- Thanks.
