- >> Does anyone know how to configure an HP Thinkjet for a 486 machine?
-
- I am not sure what settings are appropriate for a given machine, but I
- do have the documentation for the printer and can make some guesses.
- You will have to check with someone who knows more about MS-DOS to see
- how to configure the computer to use the printer. Also, certain
- settings depend on the software you are using.
-
- >> There are two sets of pins on the back:
-
- Looks like this is a 2225D serial ThinkJet
-
- >> MODE - 8 switches
-
- These switches are common to all ThinkJet printers and define how the
- printer responds to incoming characters.
-
- 1: CR definition.
- UP: CR character causes CR,LF
- DOWN: CR character causes CR only
- Comments: Correct setting depends on your software
- Suggestion: DOWN
-
- 2: LF definition.
- UP: LF character causes CR,LF
- DOWN: LF character causes LF only
- Comments: Correct setting depends on your software
- Suggestion: DOWN
-
- 3: Perforation skip mode
- UP: 1" perforation skip and end of page
- DOWN: Print over perforations
- Comments: Most WP software expects this to be down.
- Some dumb software may look better with it up.
- Suggestion: DOWN
-
- 4: Page length
- UP: 12" page length (ISO A4 size paper)
- DOWN: 11" page length (ANSI A size paper)
- Comments: Depends on the size of paper you use
- Suggestion: DOWN (assuming you are in the U.S.A.)
-
- 5: Control sequence mode
- UP: Alternate mode (Epson compatible)
- DOWN: HP mode (PCL level 1)
- Comments: HP software will work better with the switch
- down. Most other software will only work with
- it up.
- Suggestion: UP
-
- 6-8: Character set
- DDD: HP Roman-8
- UDD: ASCII
- DUD: ISO Swedish
- UUD: IBM 8
- DDU: ISO French
- UDU: ISO German
- DUU: ISO UK English
- UUU: ISO Spanish
- Comments: I believe that software for IBM compatibles
- uses the IBM 8 character set.
- Suggestion: 6 UP, 7 UP, 8 DOWN
-
- >> RS232C - 5 switches
-
- 1: Handshake mode
- UP: DTR (hardware) handshaking
- DOWN: XON/XOFF (software) handshaking
- Comments: Depends in the computer interface
- configuration.
- Suggestion: UP
-
- 2,3: Parity
- DD: No parity, 8 bit characters
- DU: Odd parity, 7 bit characters
- UD: Even parity, 7 bit characters
- UU: Parity bit set to 1, 7 bit characters
- Comments: 8 bit character sets require DD. The setting
- must match the configuration of the computer.
- Suggestion: 2 DOWN, 3 DOWN
-
- 4,5: Baud rate
- DD: 9600
- DU: 19200
- UD: 2400
- UU: 1200
- Comments: The setting must match the configuration of
- the computer.
- Suggestion: 4 DOWN, 5 DOWN
