- A friend of mine and I are seriously contemplating writing a rock
- opera or musical for a combined senior thesis. Although a good deal of
- cooperation and collaboration is involved in such a project, my primary
- task would be the composition of the involved music. Assuming that I can
- overcome the tunes drilled into my head -- from Les Miz, to Chess, to
- Jesus Christ Superstar -- I will certainly need a _fantastic_ notational
- program to score the orchestral parts with.
- Since I have a massively-expanded IIGS system, my first thought is
- Pyware's "Music Writer GS" (professional edition, of course). This is the
- only powerful, professional music notational program for the GS that I
- know
- of, anyway. It is only the price that makes me hesitate...
- I am basically begging for some comments or reviews of "Music
- Writer", positive or negative. What I'm really looking for in a
- notational
- program is:
-
- 1. A GS/OS GUI interface (System 6 compatible?)
- 2. Advanced features (at least as many as Professional Composer
- for the Macintosh)
- 3. Internal or MIDI playback of music in progress
- 4. Hard copy output suitable for use in an orchestra! (I have
- Pointless, 4M of RAM, and a DeskJet 500)
-
- And, another nice option would be to translate the final Music
- Writer files to other formats (i.e. SoundSmith, SynthLAB, DiversiTune...).
-
- I have looked far and wide, and have found no established reviews
- of MusicWriter, and the only mail-order house that carries it is Roger
- Coats.
-
- No matter what, ANY information is desired! If I don't get a hold
- of a good program soon, I'll probably end up getting something pitiful for
- my friend's 286 (which would be very inconvienent, anyway)...
-
- Many thanks!
