- Hi, I recently bought a BEST 14496 modem (14400/9600 fax send/receive,
- MNP 5 and v.42 bis) and I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK on my IIGS!!
-
- The situation is this:
-
- I can run ProTerm 2.2 and TeleComm PERFECTLY on a SmartLink 2400
- MNP 5 modem. But the moment I change the modems, I'm still using the
- same modem cable, phone cable and even power cable, weird things started
- happening. ProTerm 2.2 can dial to the boards but after the title
- screen, when they asked for my FIRST name, whatever I type creates no
- response. The SD light in the modem is flashing but it's either not
- sending the characters across or not receiving any response from the
- other side. Also, I can't see what I'm typing, even with ECHO ON!
- TeleComm produces the same problem.
-
- The BEST modem IS WORKING because I have tested and used it on
- an IBM PC (yucks!). The IIGS modem port settings are all set to default
- (I've also tried setting the port speed to 9600 and 19200). I select
- Hayes Compatible 2400 for modem setting in ProTerm 2.2.
-
- So what's wrong here?!! Don't tell me the IIGS is too slow to
- support 14400 bps??! I hate calling from the IBM PC but current
- situation leaves me no choice. BTW, I don't even have to issue any
- special AT command to the modem from the PC; I just use the default init
- string for a Hayes 2400 modem!
-
- Would really, really appreciate it if some telecommunications expert
- would offer any advice/suggestions/comments on how to get the BEST modem
- to work or to clarify that the IIGS cannot support that fast a baud
- rate ---> that means my modem goes to the PC....
-
- - DOTW - :)
