- If you buy a CD-ROM drive with a SCSI interface, you can use it with your
- Amiga if you have (1) A SCSI interface :-) and (2) Driver software that
- understands the CD_ROM format, like CPR's CD_ROM FS.
-
- Unfortunately, a lot of the cheaper CD-ROM drives use various wierd
- proprietary interfaces, and are effectively PC specific. SCSI drives
- tend to be somewhat more expensive.
-
- Most PC CD-ROMS these days use a format called ISO9660, so you should be
- able to read anything in that format. However, that may not do you much good,
- because most _programs_ on CD-ROM tend to be for PCs (or MACs, which I think
- use another format?), and won't work on an amiga.
-
- Depending on the format of the data, you may be able to use the disk with
- your own software - but if the data is stored in some wierd compressed format,
- you're likely to be out of luck.
