I saw Video Director whilst in Micro Ed enterprises of Chicago whilst on a Worldtrip with my Fiance (What a lot of whilsts :-) and decided to grab it as I had
a sony camcorder and at that stage about 8.5 hrs or raw footage that we had
taken over the previous 6.5 weeks. I have only jyst got around to using it but it works great. The lanc interface plugs into the serial port and controls the camera perfectly, and the infra read sneder/receiver works fine - unfprtunately
though this unit does not work with my video recorder.
Basically the software allows for the staorage of a libary of clips that can
then be assembled onto an output tape. If, as in my case, the IR dpoesn't
work with your VCR, you can use a manual source deck control which counts
you down to the pause with a nice voice and a 5,4,3,2,1 visual. This
proved time consuming but quite adequate for my home video editing (Which
of course will improve when i manage to afford the opalvision card :-)
The stored clip library also means that is I want to find a clip on my 8mm
tapes, all I have to do is plug in the camera and tell it to first of all calibrate the tape, and then find the clip. The clipboard used for compiling output
tapes is very easy to use, and clips can be sorted into scenes, with breaks
and even genlock controls for some genlocks inserted in the program.
The user interface was very easy to use, and for someone like me whose forte is
desktop publishing, not desktop video, was very easy to use, either via
the nice looking gagdets and buttons, or through the keyboard shortcuts
All in all a very helpful buy for the low budget, inexperienced home cameraman
that I am glad I invested in. Oh and the manual is VERY easy to understand..
