- Question: MediaVision from Spectrum 16 bit sound card for IBM,
- $299. AD1012 from SunRise Industries 12 bit sound card for
- Amiga, $599. Why 12 bit is expansive than the 16 bit one?
-
- i say...
-
- Well, the AD1012 product from SunRize Industries is more than a
- sound card. It is a 4 track recording studio...i.e...it features
- true direct to disk four track recording, including flange,
- chorus, phase, ping-pong, etc...effects. To do this SunRize
- provides software that works on its own or merged with the
- Bars and Pipes Professional system. I think to achieve CD
- quality recording with this AD1012, they double the sample rate.
-
- The sound card for the IBM is to add something to a soundless
- computer. The fact that it is 16 bit means that it handles 16
- bit samples.
-
- Incidentally the AD512 is supposed to ship August 15th. SunRize
- is already offering a discount of $200 off (if you hurry). This
- new card is selling for $1495 normally. It features an 8 track,
- 16 bit recording studio, with the same effects.
-
- Either card from SunRize would offer a recording system that is
- better than many past albums have been done on. For example
- Van Halen's 1st album was done on a 4 track analog tape system.
- And some of Michael Hedges albums were done on a 2 track analog
- tape system......example upon example would encourage the
- investment in these systems....a good 4 track analog cassette
- recorder now sells for about $450.
-
- So, why haven't I purchased a card from SunRize, even though
- I am impressed with SunRizes customer relations? Simple, the
- AD1012 uses 2.5meg of disk per 1 minute of 1 track recording.
- Therefore, a completed song recording on 4 tracks that is 4
- minutes long would use 40 meg of hard drive...I.e. like video,
- digital-audio uses alot of disk space. And it suffices to
- say the AD512 would use even more disk space. Even though
- SunRize has set up the software to handle samples and tracks
- on several different drives; I just don't have the money
- to invest in a recording studio...unless I went professional.
-
- I hope I have cleared up some confusion...rog
