- Lots of factors come into play as to whether or not one has to
- clean a mouse frequently or rarely or never. Given two identical
- mice in two different households or office environments, you could
- get two totally different sets of results.
-
- Do you smoke? Cigaret smoke's tiny airborne particles cling to all
- kinds of surfaces and leave a kind of yellowish film on things.
- This film can attract dirt. Do you eat or drink near the computer?
- Are you using a slick mousepad with a kind of smooth "wet suit"
- or leather surface or are you using a soft fuzzy-surfaced pad?
- Back when I used the standard Amiga mouse (I switched to a Boing
- optical mouse a few years ago), I tried different pads and the soft
- fuzzy pads tended to make tmy mouse gunk up its innards faster and
- more often than the slick plasticky surfaced ones,... with those
- it appeared as though the mouse left the deposits ON the pad (mouse
- droppings :-) rather than inside on its rollers.
-
- At any rate, I think you'll find that the cleaner you keep your
- computer area, the less likely it is that the mouse will require
- frequent and constant cleaning.
