  12.    As the subject line implies, my Maxtor HD is going dormant from
  13. time to time.

  17.     A500 Rev 6 [1MB Agnus, 2.04 ROMs, Super Denise]
  18.     AdIDE HD interface
  19.     ICD ShuffleBoard
  20.     Maxtor 7120 IDE HD [installed internal in place of the internal
  21.        3.5 FD]
  22.     AdRam 540 w/4MB
  23.     Heavy Duty Power supply [150w switching ps]

  25.    If the drive idles for several minutes [i.e. no accesses] it will
  26. suddenly power down [at least that's what it sounds like].  Any HD
  27. access from that point on gives block read errors and invariably a
  28. guru or complete lock up.  *Two* warm boots or one cold boot are
  29. required to get the drive to spin back up.  Life returns to normal
  30. after that.

  32.    Has anyone seen this problem before?  This problem is happening on
  33. a friend's machine but he doesn't have net access.  I can get more
  34. information if it would be helpful.
