  31. Here's an article posted to comp.text.tex about page layout by

  33. journal.

  37.                     Page Layout in LaTeX
  38.                     ====================
  39.
  40. Some time ago I responded _directly_ to Paul Richards, rather than the
  41. newsgroup, about his question.  He has not sent a Summary to the newsgroup, and
  42. I believe that this message is sufficiently useful on its own.
  43.
  44.    spedpr@thor.cf.ac.uk (Paul Richards) asks:
  45.
  46. >Is there any way to change the page layout of LaTeX in articles and
  47. >reports. It seems to leave a lot of space above and below the page and

  59. See the article entitled `Page Layout in LaTeX', by Kent McPherson, in TUGboat,
  60. Volume 9(1988), No 1. pp 78-82.  This is the single most useful article that I
  61. have seen.
  62.
  63. You can change all the parameters that you need to.  Please remember that you
  64. can use _negative_ values --- this can be very useful with `\voffset', to move
  65. everything up the page.  The parameters, with the values appropriate to article
  66. style in 10pt, that you should consider are :
  67.
  68. 1  \hoffset = 0pt       \
  69. 2  \voffset = 0pt        \
  70. 3  \oddsidemargin = 63pt  \
  71. 4  \topmargin = 27pt       \
  72. 5  \headheight = 12pt       \
  73. 6  \headsep = 25pt           \    See the diagram below
  74. 7  \textheight = 528pt       /    Taken from Kent McPherson's paper
  75. 8  \textwidth = 345pt       /
  76. 9  \marginparsep = 11pt    /
  77. 10 \marginparwidth = 90pt /
  78. 11 \footskip = 30pt      /
  79. 12 \footheight = 12pt   /
