- I've just gotten a Datagram 2400 error correcting modem. I've been TRYING
- like hell to get it set up properly and working, and have been having a bit
- of difficulty.
-
- I've set up the following:
-
- /usr/lib/uucp/Devices:
- ACU ph0 ph0 1200 PC7300 \T
- Direct tty000 - 2400 direct
- ACU tty000,M - 2400 hayes
-
- /usr/lib/uucp/Dialers:
- #hayes =,-, "" \dAT\r\c OK\r \EATDT\T\r\c CONNECT
- hayes =,-, "" \M\p\p\p\pATQ0E1&C1DT\T\d\d\r\d\c CONNECT \m
-
- [ note I commented out the older hayes... I didn't feel like changing the
- luser agent files to accomodate datagram. ]
-
- /usr/lib/uucp/Systems:
- Direct Any Direct 2400
-
- It's difficult to say... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I was
- 'lucky' and was able to access the Modem's internal config menu once, but
- lost it, and haven't been able to get back again...
-
- CU produces this:
-
- $ cu -d Direct
- conn(Direct)
- Device Type Direct wanted
- mlock tty000 succeeded
- timed out
- generic open timeout
- set interface UNIX
- getto ret -1
- Call Failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE
- Connect failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE
- call cleanup(1)
- call _mode(0)
-
- It used to connect, give some debugging info, and then immediately disconnect.
-
- I honestly can't figure this out and would appreciate some help... it can't
- be that difficult to get this working right; surely there is something I am
- overlooking or not doing. I've worked so much on it, that I wouldn't be
- surprised if it were very simple ;) So another person's help is definately
- needed.
-
- The switches (external) on the modem are all correct. I have this in
- /etc/inittab:
-
- 000:2:respawn:/usr/lib/uucp/uugetty -r -t60 tty000 2400
-
- And the DTR light is on, which is correct. Tonight when I attempted to
- dial out, the TD and RD lights blinked rapidly and then stopped. And hell
- if I know, PCOMM... I tried to get IT to use the modem, and of all stupid
- things, when I selected the number to dial from the directory, the screen
- came up and began the timer... nothing happened so I pressed ESC. THEN the
- modem begins dialing the number!! Aaarrghh!
-
- A friend of mine has this same type of modem, and I followed his instructions
- to set it up. It still won't work. I have 2 of these suckers, and they
- have been tested and both work fine (2400 baud), so that's not the issue.
-
- Another note, thru the Luser Agent, I selected FLOW CONTROL ON. I tried
- it with OFF and got some very nasty results, like garbage characters all
- over the screen (when doing a cu -d Direct).
-
- Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
